ACS Shanghai were tasked with transporting 87 tonnes of construction equipment across the globe.

Delivering 87 tonnes of urgent hydropower materials

A freight forwarder tasked our Shanghai office with expediting the delivery of 87 tonnes of cable diving equipment to Mozambique. Their client, a Chinese state-owned consortium, had been contracted to build a hydropower station in Mozambique, but the project had fallen behind schedule due to political unrest in the East African country. Consignments like this are usually transported via ocean freight, however on this occasion we knew an aircraft charter was needed to deliver it within the tight deadline.

Our Solution

Route: Guangzhou > Sri Lanka > Maputo

Aircraft: Boeing 747F

We coordinated a solution within 24 hours, sourcing a wide-body freighter with last-minute availability. With the shipper unused to transporting cable equipment by air, our experts provided guidance on repackaging the heavy and outsized onto flat pallets, advising ground handlers to ensure it was loaded onto the aircraft safely.

Whilst the flight was in the air, our team was advised against landing in Maputo due to a sudden outbreak of local unrest. Thinking quickly, we liaised with the operator and extended a planned two-hour stopover in Sri Lanka for two days whilst the situation was stabilised. After 36 hours, we were cleared to land, handing over the goods within the deadline.
