COUNTRY GUIDE SOUTH AFRICA

Private jet charter to South Africa

South Africa is one of those places you just have to visit. Offering beach retreats, city breaks, safaris and a wealth of historical and cultural experiences, you’ll need to visit time and time again to truly see it all. In the north you’ll find Johannesburg , Pretoria, the casinos of Sun City as well as the famed Kruger National Park, home to the Big Five. From the Western Cape heading East you’ll find places such as Cape Town, the rolling Winelands, game reserves, Hermanus – famed for its whale watching – Port Elizabeth and Durban.

A sprawling city, Johannesburg has turned a corner and is quickly becoming a tourist favourite. The centre of town is turning into a bustling hub, with cafes, restaurants and shopping opportunities. Some of the suburbs are also transforming into the hippest spots in town, with many growing up from successful urban-renewal projects. Nearby Pretoria is famed for its jacaranda lined avenues and is also home to the Blue Train terminal.

Cape Town, set at the other end of the country to Johannesburg, is probably South Africa’s most famous city. Set on the harbour, with the iconic Table Mountain as its backdrop you’ll find the V&A waterfront area buzzing with people. Bars, restaurants and shops offer plenty of distractions whilst a boat trip to visit Robben Island, the site of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration, is a must. You’ll also see plenty of Cape Fur seals lounging around the harbour. From here you can also visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, or head over to Camps Bay to lounge on the sand.

If you’re looking to experience the wilder side of South Africa you’ll probably head to the Kruger National Park in the north of the country. You can choose to drive yourself through the park, sticking to the set roads and stopping off at rest camps or alternatively you can go on a safari with a guide, or head to one of the private game reserves. If you’re in the south, you can head to the game reserves of the Eastern Cape, some of our favourites include Amakhala and Shamwari, the latter of which is home to the Born Free big cat sanctuary and rehabilitation centre.

If you’re a history lover you’ll want to head to KwaZulu Natal and the Battlefields. Guided tours are freely available and very emotionally charged, with visits to famous locations such as Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana. Here the mighty Zulu warriors met the British Colonial Empire forces in a series of epic battles.
