Arranging the same-day delivery of hazardous IT equipment
Our logistics experts at ACS Time Critical in Chicago were tasked with transporting five servers across the United States at short notice. The IT equipment needed to be collected from a supplier in Georgia at 9am and delivered to the end client in Alaska just 11 hours later, so a same-day solution was needed to get it there in time.
Our Solution
Route: Atlanta > Anchorage
Service: Onboard courier
Our client originally wanted to transport the equipment on the next available cargo flight. The servers were packed onto pallets, which we knew wouldn’t be accepted on the requested route, so we arranged for them to be repacked into individual cartons ASAP.
We had to revise the plan after discovering the consignment included lithium batteries, as dangerous goods are subject to strict shipping requirements and there wasn't time to secure the correct documentation for them to travel on an express freight service.
Instead, we quickly sourced an onboard courier to transport the servers as checked baggage on a passenger flight, fitting a tracking device to each carton to ensure they were flown securely. The consignment arrived in Anchorage later that day and was handed over to the client by our hand-carry agent in good time.
