COUNTRY GUIDE SWEDEN

Private jet charter to Sweden

Home to over 10.5 million people, the Scandinavian country of Sweden is bordered by Finland and the Baltic Sea to the east and Norway to the west. Comprised of an archipelago of islands and lakes, this magical country is renowned for its unique natural landscapes, vibrant capital city and Michelin-starred restaurants serving some of the world’s best New Nordic cuisine. Join them with a private jet charter from Air Charter Service.

Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, attracts over 13 million visitors each year with its clean air, glistening lakes and easy-to-navigate streets. Consisting of 14 islands, this intriguing city is best explored by boat. Rent a canoe or pedalo to tour sights including a statue of Swedish poet Gunnar Wennerberg, Kaknas Television Tower, a museum dedicated to legendary Swedish pop group ABBA and the Ericsson Globe, the largest spherical building in the world. Ultra-refined landmarks include the Nobel Museum, Royal Swedish Opera and the elaborate Stockholm Palace and Drottningholm Palace. To experience a piece of history, stay at the famous Nobis Hotel, the site of the 1973 bank heist which led to the development of the term ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.

Meatballs are Sweden’s national dish and there are many restaurants in Stockholm where you can try them, accompanied by the traditional lingonberry sauce. There’s also an impressive selection of stylish cafés offering fika – Sweden’s answer to afternoon tea – in Scandi-chic surroundings. For fine dining, visit two-Michelin-starred Oaxen Krog, which serves modern Nordic cuisine with a focus on locally sourced produce and sustainable agriculture. For designer shopping, head to the Östermalm district next to the harbour. Stockholm is also renowned for its bespoke furniture and interior design stores.

Gothenburg, the capital of West Sweden, is the second favourite city to visit in the country with its canals, cobbled streets and botanical gardens. Here you can find all the perks of Stockholm, such as fika, Michelin-starred restaurants and shopping, but at a slightly slower pace. Gothenburg Cathedral, Archipelago of Gothenburg and a selection of museums and galleries provide plenty to do. Another interesting city is Malmo, Sweden’s first Fairtrade City, where you can dine at outstanding organic restaurants and shop guilt-free in ethical shops. Aside from Sweden’s cities, the snowy province of Lapland has many beautiful areas to visit, including Abisko, a breathtaking national park filled with waterfalls and canyons where the Northern Lights can be viewed; and Jukkasjärvi, which is home to the world’s largest ice hotel.
