We were asked to help facilitate remote voting in the upcoming federal election.

Getting mobile polling services to remote Australian communities

Our experts at ACS Brisbane, in partnership with Corporate Travel Management, were tasked with designing and delivering a national charter program to support the movement of remote polling teams across Australia in the run-up to the federal election.

With 7 million Australians living in remote areas, the operation required access to 149 isolated communities. Many of these offered limited aviation infrastructure, including short runways, no lighting or fuel availability, mixed certification status, and weather-related constraints. Delivery required a coordinated, multi-state solution within fixed electoral timeframes. With this in mind, we got to work on a solution for this important request.

Our Solution

Routes: 149 locations

Aircraft: 72 planes and helicopters

We risk-assessed over 300 potential airports, suggesting alternative routes when there was insufficient infrastructure or inclement weather ruled out landing at the primary airfield.

This large-scale operation involved coordinating complex schedules to ensure polling teams reached their destinations in good time for locals to vote. The election was taking place during school holidays, restricting operator availability. Despite this, we leveraged our industry contacts to source the best aircraft for each sector.

Working with the team at Corporate Travel Management, we successfully delivered a coordinated national aviation solution, which enabled reliable access to remote communities across Australia.
