Flying oversized oil and gas pipes between continents
An oil and gas company tasked us with transporting 78 tons of oversized pipes from India to the United States. With the conflict in the Middle East causing increased demand for air cargo and fluctuating fuel prices, the client wanted to get the cargo on the move ASAP. Splitting the shipment between several scheduled flights would take too long, so we set about chartering a dedicated freighter to deliver the entire load in one flight.
Our Solution
Route: Mumbai > Houston
Aircraft: Boeing 747F
With each of the 27 pipes measuring nine metres in length, we knew a nose-loading freighter was needed for the over-dimensional cargo.
Our experts sourced two options that were ideal for the heavy and outsized load: a Boeing 747F and an Antonov An-124. The client chose the more cost-effective B747F.
We secured warehouse space to prepare the shipment for transit. The pipes were packed onto 20-foot pallets with overhangs, which were loaded through the aircraft’s nose door.
A member of our team was at the airport in Houston to oversee the unloading process. Everything ran smoothly and the client received the cargo in good time.
