Flying a group of actors for filming in Sardinia

In November 2020, an Italian production company asked Air Charter Service to fly the actors and crew for an upcoming thriller movie on a return trip from mainland Italy to the island of Sardinia.

With a large aircraft needed for the 95 passengers and heavy filming equipment, plus several schedule changes to negotiate, we had to work around the clock to ensure the charter went ahead without a hitch.

Our Solution

Routes: Rome > Olbia

Aircraft: Boeing B737-800

Within 24 hours, our experienced team had sourced a Boeing B738-800 with sufficient capacity to carry the large group of passengers and three tonnes of equipment. The charter involved several logistical challenges – two of the production company’s partners were travelling on the flight and needed to be added to the insurance; the client made several changes to the schedule; and they needed a flexible departure option for the inbound flight. It was also decided at the last minute that the equipment would travel by road rather than being loaded onto the charter.

The client asked us to arrange Covid-19 testing for all crew members within 48 hours of take-off, which proved tricky as we didn’t yet know which of the two available crew sets would be travelling on the inbound flight. They also wanted to minimise contact between the passengers and crew, so we arranged for refreshments to be placed on seats before the flight. Passengers were divided into two groups, one in the front of the aircraft and the other in the rear, with access to separate toilets.
