One year from today the first total solar eclipse in continental Europe since 2006 will take place, passing over Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and northeastern Portugal. Leading aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, is launching a flight offering passengers the best chance to witness a spot on the path of totality on 12th August 2026.
Matthew Purton, Group Aviation Solutions Director at ACS, commented: “The return flight, departing from London Stansted, will transport eclipse-chasers, astronomy enthusiasts and photographers to one of three carefully selected destinations along the path of totality: Valladolid or Palma, in Spain, or Keflavik in Iceland. The final destination will be decided 48 hours before departure, to ensure the highest probability of clear skies and optimal viewing conditions.”
This is the first total solar eclipse visible in Spain since 1905, and the first in Iceland since 1954. Purton continues: “Eclipses of this magnitude are rare, and perfect viewing conditions are even rarer. Our unique flight places importance on flexibility and science – we’ll take our passengers where the skies are clearest. It’s the best chance for a front-row seat of the spectacle – and they will all be home later the same day.
“We have a long history of chartering aircraft for eclipse-chasers, just last year the path of totality passed through Canada, several US states and Mexico, for which we arranged a number of charters, including one to view the spectacle at Niagara Falls, and one for an entire wedding party flying to Ohio to view the eclipse on the day of the wedding.”
