HOW DOES THE PRIVATE JET CHARTER PROCESS WORK?

When you enquire, you will be assigned a personal charter expert who will take the time to listen to all your travel requirements. They will then source a selection of aircraft and quotes that best suit your unique preferences for you to choose from.

Each quote will have a clear breakdown of aircraft options, arrival and departure airports, and the reasons they have been selected for you. Once you have made your choice, your personal charter expert will then book the aircraft and send you all the flight details, including directions to the terminal and any other important information. They will be your first point of call for any further enquiries you may have right until the flight and, when possible, will even meet you at the terminal to see you off. 

From your initial quote, you will be able to contact your account manager 24/7. Due to our global network of more than 30 offices across six continents, no matter where you are in the world, or what time it is, you will always have someone available to assist you.

CAN I FLY WITH MY PET ON AN ACS CHARTER?

Yes, although there are certain rules if flying in to or out of the UK. Before you can bring your pet onboard with you, you will need to make sure they have a pet passport, have been microchipped, have an up-to-date rabies vaccination history, and that you have administered a tapeworm treatment to them 12-24 hours before your arrival in the UK. 

With all of the prerequisites in order, both you and your animal companion can enjoy a luxury private flight experience. Plus, your pet will be able to sit with you in the cabin, something that most commercial airlines do not allow.

If you’re travelling into or out of the US, cats and dogs need to be eight weeks old or more and weaned. Pets crossing state borders (with the exception of guide dogs) are required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be immunised against rabies and to have a valid health certificate, issued by a veterinarian within 30 days of travel (10 days in certain circumstances). 

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FLY WITH A DOG ON A PRIVATE JET?

With most pet-friendly private jet charter companies, there won’t be an additional charge to bring your dog on a private plane. The only costs involve the pre-flight vet visits and vaccinations. 

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED ON PRIVATE JETS?

Yes. ACS can also organise meals and family-friendly in-flight entertainment for your children. As with commercial flights, babies can travel on the lap of a parent up until the age of two.

IS GROUND TRANSPORTATION INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF MY PRIVATE JET AIR CHARTER?

Your personal charter expert will organise ground transportation to and from the airport if you require it. They will include this cost in your initial quote. 

WHERE DO I NEED TO GO TO BOARD MY PRIVATE JET CHARTER PLANE?

Airports vary, but most have a dedicated terminal for private jet passengers. Also known as Fixed Based Operators (FBOs), they provide a seamless check-in and baggage check process allowing you to skip the long queues and cramped terminals associated with commercial flights. The quick and private nature of these terminals means private jet charter passengers can arrive as little as 30 minutes before their departure time. 

HOW MANY SEATS ARE THERE ON A PERSONAL OR EXECUTIVE CHARTER JET AIRCRAFT?

CAN PRIVATE CHARTER JETS FLY INTO MAJOR AIRPORTS?

Yes, private jets can land at most major international airports. Most commercial airports offer private terminals, lounges and facilities exclusively for private jet passengers. 

Landing fees can vary depending on the airport and time of year, but your dedicated ACS account manager will be able to advise you on your most cost-effective arrival and departure airports upon your charter booking. WHAT DESTINATIONS CAN YOU FLY TO ON A PRIVATE JET?

You can fly anywhere in the world. You can even fly to remote destinations, some that are only accessible by private jet, and visit places that are not served by scheduled services.

HOW FAR CAN PRIVATE JETS FLY?

No matter where you want to go, there is a private jet capable of taking you there. In general, the further away your destination is, the larger a private plane you will need if you want a non-stop flight. The typical maximum range of a heavy jet, for example, is about 11,200 km (7,000 miles) or eight hours of non-stop flying time. Some ultra-long-range heavy jets can fly even further and are capable of long flights such as from London to Singapore. 

Midsize jets, on the other hand, are able to fly for just under 4,000 km (2,450 miles) before they need to land for a refuel, and light jets can typically cover distances of up to 2,414 km (1,500 miles). For shorter journeys, turboprops are cost-effective options that usually fly for distances of 965 to 1,600 km (600 to 1,000 miles). 

Keep in mind that, while the size of the plane is a big factor, the distance a private jet can fly will also depend on factors such as the weather, headwinds, and payload (the number of passengers onboard and the amount of luggage and of fuel being carried).

DO THE AIRCRAFT HAVE WI-FI?

Yes, numerous private jets have Wi-Fi capability. If this is something that you desire, please speak to your personal account manager who will source an aircraft that has the Wi-Fi capabilities you need.

DO THE AIRCRAFT HAVE BATHROOMS?

The vast majority of private jets have lavatories onboard. Some very light jets, light the Citation Mustang simply aren’t large enough to have a bathroom onboard. The size of the lavatory, and the amenities available, typically depend on the class and size of the aircraft you charter. Some larger private jets even offer a bathroom with a stand-up shower.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION TO RENT A PRIVATE JET?

WHO SELECTS THE PRIVATE CHARTER JET AIRCRAFT I WILL FLY ON AND HOW IS IT CHOSEN?

All ACS clients are assigned a dedicated account manager to help them through their private jet charter experience from start to finish. After your initial inquiry, you will be sent three different aircraft options from your account manager, each of which has been selected to meet your particular requirements. You can then choose the one that you prefer.

CAN YOU SMOKE ON A PRIVATE JET?

It is legal to smoke on a private jet. However, being able to smoke onboard is determined on a case-by-case basis and will largely depend on whether the owner of the aircraft allows for it. If you do want to smoke onboard, simply let your account manager know when you enquire and they will source an aircraft that matches your specific requirements.

For those who require it, we have access to numerous light, mid-size, and heavy jets that can be fitted with full ICU capacity. Our air ambulance services are suited for those patients who are too weak to endure the rigours of a commercial flight and allow for the patient’s relatives to travel alongside them, along with specialist medical personnel.  

CAN YOU ARRANGE GROUND TRANSPORT?

Yes we can. Though we specialise in air travel, we can also book ground transportation to and from the airport if you require it.

WHAT’S AN EMPTY-LEG FLIGHT?

If a private aircraft is chartered for a one-way journey, say from London to Rotterdam, the aircraft may need to reposition to base or another location. These flights won’t have any passengers on them. To recoup some of the costs, the owner offers the aircraft for charter at a reduced rate. HOW DO I DECIDE WHICH AIRCRAFT TO CHARTER?

WHICH AIRPORTS CAN I FLY TO?

An ACS private jet charter gives you access to more locations, including smaller private airports that are not accessible by scheduled services. This means that you can depart closer to home and arrive closer to your final destination. However, it’s important to remember that not all airports are open 24 hours a day. So, if you have a flight in the early hours of the morning or very late at night, you will need to speak to your account manager about finding an airport that will be open at the time you need to fly. 

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIVATE AIRCRAFT FLIGHTS AND SCHEDULED AIRLINE SERVICES?

Private charters typically offer a lot more flexibility and convenience for passengers, both in terms of the destination and the flight experience itself. 

Where a scheduled service departs at set times, a private jet charter is organised around your preferences and schedule, so you can choose exactly when you want to fly. Relaxation and convenience are the top priorities, and you can choose how you want to spend the duration of your flight, be it working or sleeping, without being disturbed by other passengers. 

You can control the air-conditioning, select your preferred in-flight dining menu and tailor the flight to suit your exact requirements. Extra leg room, padded reclining chairs, and sometimes even full-size beds, mean that you can really relax. Another key benefit is that access to private terminals means that boarding times are greatly reduced, and you only need to arrive 30 minutes before the time of your departure.

BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT

HOW LONG BEFORE MY FLIGHT DO I NEED TO CHECK-IN?

Using private terminals means that you are able to check in much closer to takeoff than you could on a scheduled service flight. Sometimes you can arrive as little as 30 minutes before the aircraft is due to depart, and in some cases, you can even be driven directly to the aircraft for boarding.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD OR MY AIRCRAFT CAN’T TAKE OFF?

As hard as we work to give our clients the best private charter experience possible, there are certain factors that are out of our control, including poor weather conditions or an aircraft going “tech.” 

Going “tech” is a term used to refer to the very rare cases where a technical fault on the plane you have chartered is preventing it from flying. In the case of bad weather, you may need to delay take off, amend your route or land at a slightly different airport. 

In either case, your account manager will do their utmost to rectify the situation as soon as possible and source an alternative aircraft if required. 

WHAT DOCUMENTATION DO I NEED TO FLY ON A PRIVATE JET CHARTER AIRCRAFT?

Private jet security is similar to commercial airline security in many ways. Each passenger boarding the private jet will need a valid passport. A visa may also be required for visiting certain countries. The same documentation is required for passengers travelling by private jet as for those travelling on commercial flights, and the same check-in and security processes apply, but they just happen at a faster pace as there are no queues. 

As private jet flights are ticketless, you do not need to bring a ticket. However, you will be given a flight itinerary and booking reference in advance.

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES AT THE AIRPORT LIKE?

When you fly via private jet, you will often have access to a private terminal (FBO). The amenities will vary depending on each airport, but will generally be of a high standard and have a separate entrance, check-in, immigration and security check area to the commercial terminal. 

HOW LONG BEFORE MY JET CHARTER FLIGHT DO I NEED TO BE AT THE AIRPORT?

Your dedicated account manager will help you get ready for your flight and will advise you on the time that you need to arrive. You should always arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time for international and domestic flights.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET HELD UP AND DELAYED?

As long as your delay doesn’t affect the aircraft’s schedule, it will wait for you. If you are running late, call your ACS account manager who will contact the aircraft operator and alter your take-off time accordingly.

DURING YOUR FLIGHT

WHAT CATERING IS INCLUDED?

Depending on the class of aircraft you’ll have different catering options available to you. Smaller aircraft typically cannot serve hot food because they don’t have room or the facilities required.

Onboard catering is VIP-standard and we can accommodate any dietary requirements you may have. We can also organise meals for children. Do bear in mind that any specialist requests, such as caviar or certain wines, Champagnes, or spirits, may incur an additional charge.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE AT MY DESTINATION?

ACS can arrange for a chauffeur to meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel or residence that you will be staying in. If you require more assistance beyond your flight, contact our Travel Division.

In most instances, a flight attendant will be there to make sure that you and your group have the most enjoyable flight possible. Some light jets do not have space to accommodate a flight attendant. 

WHAT MEALS WILL I BE SERVED?

Your account manager will go through the different in-flight catering options available to you, and your menu can be planned in advance to match your particular tastes and preferences. We can accommodate any dietary requirements you have.

A private jet card is a pre-paid program that enables holders to access private jet flights by purchasing a certain number of flight hours in advance. Depending on the charter company and jet card type you choose, these cards can come with a number of additional benefits, including guaranteed availability, fixed hourly rates, and personalised services. It's another way for individuals to enjoy the convenience and flexibility of private jet travel without the commitment and costs associated with owning an entire aircraft.

HOW MUCH IS IT TO CHARTER A PRIVATE JET?

DOES THE COST TO CHARTER A JET VARY WITH THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS?

The cost of a private jet charter is largely dependent on the size of the aircraft and the time it is in the air. While the number of passengers impacts the class of jet you will require, unlike a scheduled flight, you are not paying for a seat on the plane, but rather the hire of the plane itself. The amount of fuel the aircraft uses, catering costs and passenger taxes will, of course, vary depending on the number of passengers.

ARE THERE ANY EXTRA CHARGES?

While all charges will be included in your bill, it is affected by the additional extras you may want to make use of. For example, if you want to make use of the on-board Wi-Fi, you may be required to pay an additional cost. Catering is another additional extra that can impact a charter cost. 

Other additional charges could include de-icing costs and last-minute amendments. Any flights within the UK will also be charged VAT. 

IS IT MORE COST-EFFICIENT TO CHARTER A JET IF I AM TRAVELING WITH A GROUP OF 10 OR 15?

Yes, it can be more cost-effective to organise a charter for a large group because the total cost may be equal to (or even less than) that of buying a separate ticket for each person on a commercial flight. This is especially true if you are thinking of purchasing first-class or business-class tickets. For a group of 10-15 people, we would recommend a heavy jet such as the Falcon 900LX or Bombardier Global XRS.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY PRIVATE JET CHARTER FLIGHT?

We accept bank transfers and card payments. A deposit may need to be put down to secure your charter. You can also use the funds on your Empyrean Card Account if you have one.

HOW MUCH DOES A PRIVATE JET COST

LUGGAGE

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN YOU TAKE ON A PRIVATE JET?

You will be told how much the hold can take on your chosen aircraft well in advance of your trip and can upgrade if you feel more space is needed. You may need to choose a larger aircraft if you are travelling with equipment like golf clubs and skis. If you’re travelling with a gun, you will need to provide a valid license and the gun and ammunition must be kept separate. It is then at the captain’s discretion whether it can be on board.

CAN I TAKE A WINDSURF BOARD ON A PRIVATE JET?

Yes, private jets are not subject to the standard baggage restrictions of commercial flights. Smaller planes may have a smaller hold and this is something you need to factor in when choosing your aircraft.

CAN I TAKE A KITE ON A PRIVATE JET?

Yes, there are no baggage restrictions on private jets. Smaller planes may have a smaller hold, so if you do need to bring your kite with you, you will need to keep that in mind when choosing your aircraft or speak to your account manager about upgrading.

CAN I TAKE SKIS ON A PRIVATE JET?

Yes, there are no baggage restrictions on private jets. Discuss your luggage requirements with your account manager beforehand and they will advise you of the most suitable aircraft options. 

CAN I TAKE A SNOWBOARD ON A PRIVATE JET?

Yes, there are no baggage restrictions on private jets, so as long as there is enough space in the hold for a snowboard that is fine. Smaller planes may have a smaller hold and this is something your account manager will factor in when choosing your aircraft. CAN I TAKE A WHEELCHAIR ON A PRIVATE JET?

Yes, and in most cases the wheelchair can be stored in the cabin storage area, making it more convenient for disembarking the aircraft. The private jet boarding process is very easy for people in wheelchairs, as there is often immediate boarding, without the need to queue or wait for assistance. 

Wheelchair users will be driven directly to the steps of the aircraft with any other passengers. A ramp is then in place for the wheelchair to be pushed up the plane. Increased legroom, more comfortable seating and private amenities will make the flight much more comfortable. Your ACS account manager will help you choose a jet with a large enough cabin storage area and make sure that the airport you fly into has disabled access.

ARE GOLF CLUBS ALLOWED ON PRIVATE JETS?

Yes. Private jets generally offer more flexibility than commercial airlines when it comes to how much luggage you can bring on board. It’s just important to keep the size of the plane in mind because smaller planes will have a smaller hold, and therefore less capacity for large items. 

The security restrictions of commercial airlines do not apply – sharp items, liquids, and firearms are OK, but this should be discussed with your personal account manager beforehand and is at the captain’s discretion. A short runway may mean that an extremely heavy hold may not be appropriate, but this is something that would be worked out prior to your trip.
