Heavy and Outsized Case Study
A large specialist sightseeing boat needed to be transported from Scotland to Kazakhstan. We were tasked with flying this very heavy and outsize freight safely to its intended destination.
Our client wanted to arrange a VIP tour of a new copper mine on a very shallow lake in Zhezkazgen in Kazakhstan, but didn’t have the specialist transportation necessary for the task. In order to carry out the tour, they requested a large, 20 tonne boat, the ‘Spirit of Skye’, to be flown over from Scotland. However, due to the uniqueness of the vessel, there were no accurate dimensions or technical drawings available for the account manager to look at in advance.
Using his initiative and technical expertise, the account manager sourced an Antonov 22 for the task and advised for the deck to be cut off in Scotland and flown out to Kazakhstan, where it was then re-welded.
Weeks of careful deliberation also ensured that the most time efficient route was chosen for the aircraft and its outsize freight. As a result, the boat was transported to its destination with minimal delay, ensuring that the VIP tour of the copper mines could be fulfilled.
