Courchevel International Airport will test the mettle of even the most frequent of fliers. With a runway running down the mountainside, landing is on the uphill, whilst to take off, you’re on the downhill. There’s also a small rise at the half way point of the 1700ft runway to really make things interesting. Pilots must obtain a special certification to land at Courchevel as there are no go around procedures, instrument approach procedures or lighting aids. That said, it’s the best way to get straight onto the slopes, with the mountainside around the airport home to plenty of high-end ski resorts.
