Scheduled services leave orchestra strung out

A world-renowned French orchestra was performing in Athens and needed to travel there and back within three days.

As well as the musicians, several members of support crew were travelling too, bringing the total number of passengers to 105.

While the majority of the instruments would be taken by road to Greece, the most fragile and expensive needed to be carried in the cabin. As well as ensuring they arrived intact, this would allow players to practise right up until the last minute and even en route – certainly a new form of on-board entertainment on us.

AIRCRAFT: BOEING 737

ROUTE: PARIS - ATHENS - PARIS

SOLUTION:

Aircraft and global knowledge

Working to a strict budget and very specific timings, our team drew up a shortlist of suitable aircraft, and after discussing the options, a Boeing 737 was chosen.

As well as having plenty of space for all the passengers, the 189-seat aircraft also had room for instruments to travel on the seat next to their owner, rather than in the overhead compartments. Catering was arranged and our team kept in close contact with the orchestra’s travel tour manager, dealing with last-minute changes to the schedule and meal requests.

On the day, the musicians were met by an Air Charter Service rep at a dedicated check-in desk, complete with the orchestra’s branding. Our rep then joined them on board to make sure the trip was note-perfect.

All the players and their instruments arrived safely and on time, and we hope the group will be back for an encore soon.
