23 December: Arriving in a winter wonderland
You’ll fly by private jet from Farnborough to Kittila, where you’ll meet your hosts and transfer to your base for the festive period. Dramatically positioned atop snowy Utsuvaara Hill in the prestigious ski resort of Levi, Laavu is an incredible seven-bedroom log chalet lavishly decorated with natural wood, plush furniture and cosy open fireplaces. Guests enjoy the use of a spacious sauna and gourmet meals prepared by your own private chef.
Your luxurious abode is bedecked to celebrate an authentic Finnish Christmas and you’ll spend this afternoon getting into the yuletide spirit – baking festive biscuits, decorating a real Christmas tree and playing snow games with a visiting elf. Later, enjoy evening drinks and a delicious dinner in the chalet’s atmospheric dining room.
Christmas Eve: Seek out the spellbinding Northern Lights
After breakfast, embark on a thrilling snowmobiling adventure, zipping past arctic forests and over frozen lakes as you explore the pristine snowy landscape. You’ll also have the chance to try ice fishing in frozen lakes, learning local techniques to catch hardy species of fish such as pike and perch which survive in Lapland’s freezing temperatures, before preparing your catch for lunch with the chef and feasting on the fruits of your labour.
This afternoon is a real highlight of the trip – snowmobiling to the Northern Lights. Caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun entering the earth's atmosphere, this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon fills the sky with an eerie glow of green and pink clouds, streamers, arcs and shooting rays.
Christmas Day: Private meeting with Santa
Waking up in Lapland on Christmas morning is an unforgettably magical experience. After enjoying a lavish festive breakfast prepared by your private chef, you’ll enjoy a reindeer-pulled sleigh ride through your fairy-tale surroundings, speeding over powdery snow as you cross the enchanting forest landscape. There’s an opportunity to visit the native sami reindeer herders, learning about their fascinating nomadic history and rich cultural heritage of farming these fabled creatures.
This afternoon you’ll be treated to a private visit with Santa Claus in a secret forest hut, where he’ll present the whole family with Christmas presents, before returning to the Northern Lights on a snowshoe safari. Donning traditional snowshoes, you’ll explore the wintry wilderness on foot while watching for a glimpse of the wondrous lights and tuck into warming snacks over a campfire. End the perfect Christmas Day with another specially prepared dinner back at the chalet.
Boxing Day: Husky Sled Ride
Your Boxing Day begins with an invigorating husky sled ride. Wrapped in thick blankets, you’ll be pulled through the chilly scenery as powdery snow clouds around the powerful dogs’ paws and the morning sky glows overhead. Afterwards, you’ll meet adorable husky puppies at their kennel and learn about the life of a sled dog.
Next is a guided tour of an ice gallery, a spellbinding snow castle where you can peruse stunning ice sculptures and other frozen artwork. After lunch, head back in search of one last glimpse of the Northern Lights, this time while learning to toboggan down ice slopes in a thrilling adventure. This evening you’ll enjoy a memorable farewell dinner at the chalet before turning-in for your final night.
27 December: Ice-driving in the wilderness
After a final breakfast in your wintry base, embark on an exhilarating ice-driving experience. Accompanied by expert driving instructors who will advise you on driving in an icy environment, you’ll take the wheel of a BMW or Porsche rally car custom-fitted with safety roll gates, special seats and spike tyres. Tailor-made according to each guest’s driving experience, you’ll learn to control your chosen rear-wheel drive vehicle in challenging conditions as you whiz around ice circuits. After lunch you’ll transfer back to Kittila for your return private jet flight to the UK.
Guests will travel on board either a Legacy 600 or Falcon 900B accommodating up to 10 passengers directly to Kittila from your chosen airport. For larger groups, there are larger lodges available and we would recommend a Challenger 604 for up to 18 passengers.
