COUNTRY GUIDE NEW ZEALAND

Private jet charter to New Zealand

New Zealand is a natural wonderland, with some of the most spectacular landscapes found in the world blessing its two main islands. From geothermic geysers and bubbling mud pools, to glaciers, fiords and bustling cities, it simply has a little something for everyone.

Auckland is New Zealand’s most populous city, but not its capital. Here you’ll find everything you’d expect in a city of this size, plenty of shopping, wining, dining as well as outskirts home to wonderful golf courses, hiking trails and wineries. Further out you’ll come across Matamata, which wasn’t well-known until it became the town of Hobbiton for the Lord of the Rings trilogy of movies. Here you can take the tour, have your picture taken at Bag End and enjoy a drink at the Green Dragon. South west of Matamata you’ll find Waitomo, famed for its glow worm caves, whilst to the south east you’ll find Rotorua. Well-known as a geothermal wonderland, Rotorua is where you’ll find the Pohutu Geyser, Champagne Pool and plenty of bubbling pools. Further south you’ll find Wellington, the capital and second most populous city in New Zealand. Here you’ll find Te Papa, the national museum of New Zealand as well as the Wellington Museum, Zealandia and the Wellington Cable Car.

Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island and has plenty for visitors to see and do. Though it suffered damage in the 2011 earthquake, the city is back on its feet, and there are plenty of museums, shops, restaurants and bars as well as a botanical garden and a wildlife park. Further south you’ll find the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, both popular with walkers and hikers. You can choose to hike the glacier, or take a flight over it. Keep heading south and a little inland you’ll find Queenstown, well known for its adrenaline pumping activities. Bungee jumping, sky diving and jet boating are just some of the activities on offer. For something a little more serene, head down to the Fiordland National Park where you can enjoy the beauty and serenity of the fiords, and possibly take a cruise. On the opposite side of the island lies Dunedin, a little slice of Scotland in New Zealand. Home to the country’s only castle and a beautiful Victorian railway. On the southern coast lies Invercargill, the most southerly city in New Zealand and another city with Scottish heritage. It is a great base from which to explore southern New Zealand.
