THE 'REAL EXPERIENCE'

THE 'REAL EXPERIENCE' OF A WORK PLACEMENT STUDENT

GROUP CHARTER WORK PLACEMENT

WORK PLACEMENT COMPLETED IN 2012/13

My year as a work placement student was busy, exciting and ultimately led to the career I’m working in now as a Group Charter Broker at ACS.

I assisted 3 Senior Brokers, working on their charters and learning every detail of chartering large passenger aircraft. Clients included touring rock bands, sports teams, governments, military organisations, heads of state and car companies (to name a few!)

One of the best opportunities was (and still is) the travel. I went to approximately 20 different countries during my placement year, often flying on the chartered aircraft with the clients to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

You need to be confident, hard-working and adaptable to do this job, but I can honestly say that I had the best work experience year of all of my university friends and I couldn’t wait to return to ACS to begin my career as a Broker after I’d graduated!

MARKETING DEPARTMENT WORK PLACEMENT

CURRENT WORK PLACEMENT STUDENT

I began my placement year in June 2015 and I’m working in the Events team.

I have been given a lot of responsibility and I love the variety in my job. In Events you are always out and about, travelling to different locations and being really involved with the success of the show or event.

I have even been lucky enough to travel to Paris in a private jet!

My role includes registering delegates to attend events, liaising with event and trade show suppliers, pre- and post-event mailings, arranging stock and gifts for events, ensuring that contacts made at the events are recorded and followed up, attending the events themselves and ensuring that they run smoothly.

One of the highlights so far has been helping to arrange the ACS 25th anniversary festival weekend for our employees and guests. We had different types of food, several bars, bands, games and activities and it went on until the small hours! It was fantastic to be part of arranging the event and then to see how much everyone enjoyed it on the day.

This job very exciting and full of great opportunities. Seeing your visions come to life after planning and organising the event is extremely rewarding.

GROUP CHARTER WORK PLACEMENT

CURRENT WORK PLACEMENT STUDENT

I started my work placement with ACS in July 2015. I’m working in the Flight Services Team in the Group Charter department.

I deal with confirmed charters, liaising between our clients, airlines and other suppliers in order to arrange all of our clients’ requests and to arrange the best possible service.

This is a very varied job and no two days are the same! Some charters are very complex involving several different sectors, arranging our client’s branding in the aircraft, specialised catering and coordinating a high number of different services. Other charters can be very urgent, dealing with aid workers being transported to areas stricken by natural disasters or humanitarian emergencies.

I get to travel a lot myself and sometimes I am in involved in very important worldwide events.

I am really enjoying my experience with ACS. It’s opened my eyes to the world of aviation, I feel like I’m really contributing and that I’m learning something new every day.

I’m very happy to be doing my placement year at Air Charter Service!

CARGO CHARTER WORK PLACEMENT

COMPLETED WORK PLACEMENT IN 2009/10

During my time as a student at ACS, I was assisting the Cargo Director.

It was an incredible opportunity to work with one of the best and most senior Cargo Brokers in the business. I was busy from day 1, helping him to make all of the arrangements for his clients and making sure that his reputation as one of the best was maintained!

The work that I did during my placement year included:

  • Liaising with airlines for pricing
  • Preparing quotations for our clients
  • Setting up flights with airport handling agents
  • Overseeing loading and offloading of the cargo at airports
  • Follow the progress of our flight
  • Updating our clients on the progress of their flights
  • Problem solving and raising serious issues to my mentor
  • Generating Post Flight Reports

The travel opportunities were amazing. I was able to go to some remote and fascinating countries which I would never have experienced had I not joined ACS.

After I graduated, I returned to ACS as a Trainee Broker and 4 years later I am now managing my own team in our London Cargo division.
