UK and US Awards Shows to watch out for

Hollywood has been the first to host, with the Golden Globes honouring both The Revenant and The Martian with a collection of awards. The USA continues to host with the Grammys and the Oscars before the UK takes over with the BAFTAs and the BRIT Awards.

The 58th annual Grammy Awards are taking place on Monday 15th February at the renowned Staples Center in Los Angeles. Over in the US it’s aired on CBS, but in the UK you’ll have to settle for either 4Music 24 hours later, or you can watch it via the Grammys official website. It starts at 8pm in Los Angeles, so you’ll have to tune in at 4am over here. The Grammys honours outstanding achievements in the music scene and there are awards for everything from rock and jazz, to movie soundtracks and bluegrass.

Next up are The Oscars or, Academy Awards, as they are also known. Probably one of the most recognised awards ceremonies in the world; the 88th Academy Awards are taking place on Sunday 28th February at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. Again, these are broadcast live in the US and can be found on ABC but over here you’ll need to tune in to the Sky Movie Oscars channel, or you can watch it through the online streaming service. The Oscars started in 1929 which makes them the oldest of this type of Award show, and were hosted at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with just 270 people.

Back in the UK we’ll be gearing up for the Film section of the BAFTAs, which takes place on February 14th and will be broadcast live on BBC One. BAFTA stands for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts who host both awards shows, with the Television section occurring later in the year. The British Academy Film Awards take place in the Royal Opera House in London and celebrates cinema from around the world, with some specific categories for British filmmaking only.

Last but by no means least; we have the Brit Awards, the UK equivalent of the aforementioned Grammys. The awards began in 1977 as part of the celebration of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, and then started annually from 1982. Most of the awards are for British acts, though there are some for International artists also. The Brit Awards take place at The O2 Arena in London on February 24th and will be broadcast on ITV.
