Awards season in Los Angeles
Hollywood has just had their first major outing of 2016, to the Golden Globes, and what a spectacular night it was. With The Revenant and The Martian both taking home a collection of awards, they’ll be hoping to continue their winning form for the Oscars. So, we take a look at when and where in Los Angeles the big awards shows are happening, and how they’re measuring up.
First up are the 22nd annual SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards, which are going to be held on Saturday 30th January at the Shrine Auditorium. They’ll be broadcast live on both TNT and TBS at 8pm so you can tune in and see whether Leonardo DiCaprio will win another award with The Revenant or whether he’ll be trumped by Eddie Redmayne going for two SAG Awards in a row.
Next up are the 58th annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on Monday 15th February at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The entire awards show will be aired live on CBS and this one also starts at 8pm. While still attracting Hollywood A-listers, the Grammys recognize outstanding achievements in the music scene instead of the silver screen. Here you’ll find awards for everything from pop to bluegrass, and audio books to movie soundtracks.
The Oscars or, Academy Awards, are up next. They are probably one of the most famous awards ceremonies around, and the 88th Academy Awards are taking place on Sunday 28th February in the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood and are broadcast live on ABC. The Academy Awards are the oldest entertainment awards ceremony starting 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with an audience of just 270 people. Nowadays the audience is far vaster, with 37 million US citizens watching the broadcast, not to mention millions of others across the globe.
Finally we have the iHeartRadio Music Awards which take place on Sunday 3rd April and are broadcast on TBS, TNT and TruTV. This awards ceremony also takes place in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This is one of the newest award shows to Los Angeles, having been started in 2014. That said, they are quickly rising in popularity. They have another event in Las Vegas later in the year.
